2nd Consecutive Title.....

This weekend the Lakeville Prowlers Junior Gold 16's team won their second consecutive State Championship in Plymouth. This season the Prowlers finished with an overall record of 33-7 and a league record of 19-5 good for a second place finish. After a 4-3 overtime victory over St. Thomas Academy in the play downs the Prowlers earned the #1 seed for the State Tournament.

The Prowlers kicked off the tournament Friday afternoon with a 3-0 victory over Osseo/Maple Grove thanks to some timely goal scoring and outstanding goal tending by Allen Flaskey. The Crimson outshot the Prowlers in this first round game. In the semifinals the Prowlers drew the Blaine Ice Dogs who had beat Lakeville earlier in the season. Lakeville went down early 1-0 before tying it up before going down by a goal again in the second period. A few minutes later Lakeville scored 3 goals in 1 minute to jump out 4-2 before they finished with a 5-3 victory.

In the Championship game the Prowlers drew the Minnetonka Skippers. From the beginning the Skippers started taking on water and the Prowlers started the scoring at 1:39 into the period with a goal by Jayson Sorvari with an assist to Rob Frederick. 8 minutes later Frederick added a goal with a wrist shot from the point. With 3 minutes left in the first Jared Melnychuk made it 3-0 with assists from Nick Kartak and Cole Bobeldyk. Minnetonka was able to score a minute into the second before the Prowlers got back on the offensive. Alec Shea got the 4th goal with a nice deflection of a Tyler Jensen point shot. Bobeldyk got the 5th goal with a laser of a shot whistling past the goalies ear and into the net, the rush was started by Cam Kennedy. At 11:10 of the second the Prowlers finally got a power play after killing of 3 minor penalties. 30 seconds later Frederick blasted a shot from the point to make it 6-1. This goal was assisted by Kartak, and Melnychuk. 5 minutes into the third the Skippers were sunk by the final blow, a goal by Sorvari with an assist from his belly by Joey Donnelly. 13 saves by Blake Hathaway help the Prowlers stay of the attack.

All in all it was a very fun season and the coaching staff is sorry to see it end. We had the pleasure of coaching these 17 kids and are looking forward to see what these fine young men have in store in their future. We are very proud of the boys and are thankful to be apart of their journey to the top.

The Prowlers are Nate Papacek, Cole Bobeldyk, Cortland Polfliet, Justin Scott, Spencer Patterson, Alec Shea, Jayson Sorvari, Nick Kartak, Owen Schuster, Cam Kennedy, Joey Donnelly, Jared Mulnychuk, Rob Frederick, Ryan Oberg, Blake Hathaway, Allen Flaskey, and Tyler Jensen. They are coached by Jim Condon, Tom Gore, Eric Syverson, Anson Fisk, and Sam Johnson. This season could not have gone as smooth as it did without our manager Tonyea Patterson.
