About Board Elections

The election of officers for the Lakeville Hockey Association Board of Directors is held annually each spring.

This page will be updated to include a list of elected member positions that are open for each voting cycle.  This page will also include a form for interested candidates to submit their declaration of candidacy for these open positions.

2020 Open Board Positions

The following Board positions are open for candidacy for a two year period. Voting will be held during the March 2020 Annual Meeting to be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2020.

How to Apply or Declare Your Candidacy

If you are interested in applying (non-voting board member), or declaring your candidacy (voting board) for one of the open positions, just click the CONTINUE Button on the bottom of this page. Then, make sure that you then complete the full application including:

By filling these out and selecting the appropriate type (voting or non-voting) position, you are applying to be a candidate for the LHA Board. The completed form you fill out will be submitted to LHA .

Deadline for Voting Positions

Voting positions require a public forum where members are elected to LHA. The information on the form you submit will be posted on the LHA Elections page and must be submitted by 11:59 pm on March 8, 2020.

  • Note: After March 8, any open positions are filled by appointment by the president and confirmed by the Board.

Note: Candidates will select the positions they are applying for from a drop down menu within the application process. It is possible to apply for multiple positions, but to do so, one must create an individual entry for each position.


Meet the 2020 Candidates

Candidate Name: Alison Fogarty

Desired Position: VP Admin/District 8 Rep

Number of Children in LHA: 2

Background:

 I have been on the LHA Board for 3 seasons now. I have held the position of Communications Director since the Fall of 2017. I also took over the Registrar position for the 2019-2020. I have also been a part of the Hockey Day Lakeville Committee for the past two years. I have two kids that play hockey in LHA - a 2nd year PeeWee and a 1st year U10.

Accomplishments:

Since joining the LHA Board, I feel like I have made many positive contributions. I have expanded our social media presence, implementing a social media management tool that allows us to streamline our processes. Additionally, I assisted in implementing the new Registration portal last year, allowing for online, scheduled payments of registration administered directly through SportsEngine. Another accomplishment that I am proud of is the implementation of a streamlined apparel program allowing all levels of LHA players to have a uniform apparel package at a competitive price, which can be utilized for a minimum of two seasons. Lastly, I served on the Hockey Day Lakeville Committee for the past two seasons, working to design and execute the event successfully.

Team Goals/Plans:

If elected to the VP of Admin role, I look to continue to implement positive change for all of our LHA families. I would like to continue to streamline processes and find new ways to promote consistency amongst the teams. I would like to continue to find ways to improve our Communications with our member families and deliver timely and relevant content. While hockey is an expensive sport, I would like to work with the rest of the Board to find additional opportunities to make hockey more affordable for our families.


Candidate Name: Michael Bakken

Desired Position: U8/U10 Director

Number of Children in LHA: 1

Background:

I have lived in Lakeville for twenty one years. I have been involved with LHA for eleven years. During that time I have coached 5 teams for the girls program and 10 teams on the boys side. I was also involved in coaching four teams for Minnesota Made’s Choice League. My youngest daughter Victoria is a first year U10. My youngest son has moved on from LHA and is playing JV for Lakeville South HS.

Accomplishments:

As a member of the coaching staff for 15 LHA teams I have worked to see that each player improves and continues to play this wonderful game.

Team Goals/Plans:

I would like to continue the wonderful work that my predecessors have started. The girls program has grown under their tenure and I would like to see the trend continue. I will work to ensure skill development at all U8 and U10 levels so that we can produce competitive teams that promote a love of hockey. My goal would be that we not only add to the number of girls playing hockey but work to ensure they continue to play, love the sport and develop character.


Candidate Name: Bjorn Vogen

Desired Position: PeeWee Director

Background:

 I have been a Lakeville resident since 1971. Graduated and played hockey for Lakeville. I have coached in LHA the last 7 seasons. I have been a proud contributor to Hockey Day Lakeville since the start.

Make LHA the premier metro area hockey association.


Candidate Name: Scott Stoneking

Desired Position: South Association Head Coach

Number of Children in LHA: 2

Background:

I have been involved with Lakeville Hockey for over 11 years. I had served on the LHA board for 7 years. I served as Mite Director, Squirt Director, and Peewee Director. I have also volunteered to coach at Mite level through Bantam level. I have coached AA teams, B teams and C teams. I have coached AAA hockey teams. Before LHA, I coached a few years of HS hockey and one year at the College level Division III. I have had three kids ( 2 current and 1 former LHA player) play in LHA. Currently, I have a Bantam and Squirt.

Accomplishments:

I have worked as both a head coach and an assistant coach.I have been involved in the tryout process as an evaluator and facilitator . I have worked successfully with HDC committee members. I have worked through with multiple LHA presidents and South Coaches. I have had many positive contributions through my time as level directors. I have provided leadership when needed and supporting roles when asked. I have been willing to let others lead and provide supportive roles. I have invested thousands of hours of time to make South Hockey better for every player and family.

Team Goals/Plans:

 If elected as South Association Head Coach, I will work with all levels to insure we have the highest quality coaches at all levels.


Candidate Name: Dave Banks

Desired Position: Bantam Director

Number of Children in LHA: 2

Background:

My children and I have been involved in LHA since 2015. I have a son that will be a 1st year bantam and a daughter that will be a 2nd year U10. I have coached 2 years at the Squirt level, 2 years at the Peewee level, and 2 years in the girls program at the U10 level. I also coach AAA hockey in Lakeville. Prior to joining the LHA association I coached high school for 4 years and goalie clinics in the US and Canada.

Accomplishments:

I have supported and mentored several players to improve their game of hockey over the years I've coached. The high school team I coached made it to the State High School tournament all 4 years. I've seen players passion for hard work, team work, and fair play develop along with their skills and love of the sport.

Team Goals/Plans:

f elected Bantam Director, I would invest my time in creating an enjoyable season for player's and their families by building upon the great work of previous Bantam Director's. I would be a committed board member and strive to make this a high quality association by working closely with all board members and coaches to ensure we are working towards the LHA goals and objectives for this level. I am passionate about communication and transparency, that said, I would make myself available for questions from coaches, players, and parents. 


Candidate Name: Jim Condon

Desired Position: Junior Gold Director

Number of Children in LHA: None

Background:

I have been the Junior Gold Director and coach of the 16's team for the past 7 years .

Accomplishments:

In my years as the director we have built the program into an option for high school players to continue playing at a competitive level. We have had many players play junior gold and still go on to play for the high school team. I have introduced the Prowlers name into the association at the junior gold level and the name has moved into the younger levels as the co-op team names.

Team Goals/Plans:

It is my plan every year to have an option for all kids to keep playing. We have had 2 coaching staffs that have been at junior gold for 8+ years and it is my goal to have a coach in line for many years for our 3rd team.

Candidate Name: Seth Baker

Desired Position: President

Number of Children in LHA: 3

Background:

I have been part of Lakeville hockey for 8 years and have volunteered on the board for the last 4 years.  I have also volunteered to coach each season that we have been part of LHA.  I currently coach beginner U8 and the Lakeville Special Hockey Team. I currently have 3 children in LHA.  Brody will be a first-year Bantam, Dylan will be a second-year Squirt and my daughter Kenley will be in her second year of U8 hockey.

Accomplishments:

As a member of the HDC committee, I assist in the tryout process each season.  I have also worked to create programs like Roaming Coaches to ensure that all kids get the best hockey experience and development opportunities.

Team Goals/Plans:

I will expand transparency and communication with our members.  I will also work to enhance our operating budget so that we can simplify and reduce the cost of hockey where possible.  I will also work with our ice director and the city of Lakeville to reduce travel and ice time outside of Lakeville.  Lastly, I will continue to work to ensure that every child has a great youth hockey experience.  


Candidate Name: Brian Peterson

Desired Position: VP Operations

Number of Children in LHA: 2

Background:

8 Years involved in LHA. The 1st 3 years as a coach or assistant and the last 5 years as a member of the board. In those 5 years I have been the tournament director for all 5 years, as well as the VP of Operations for the last 2 years. In addition, was part of the planning committee the inaugural year of HDL.

Accomplishments:

Directed multiple successful tournaments including a number of district playoffs, regional playoffs, and a state tournament. In addition, I lead the tryout process into the 21st century by making evaluations completely secure, ensuring that the process remains as above board and transparent as possible. I did this by utilizing a platform for score entry and evaluation. I also assisted in bringing the 1st ever HDL to fruition.

Team Goals/Plans:

My goals for the board would be to continue to tweak the tryout process. It is not perfect and although I am not sure perfect is possible, we can improve. I also want to continue to work on using our resources wisely and looking at all avenues of expense to ensure we are being as fiscally responsible as possible, while also making sure we are continuously working to develop young athletes as well as young men and woman.


Candidate Name: Michael Nielson

Desired Position: South Association Head Coach

Number of Children in LHA: 2

Background:

I have been involved with the Lakeville Hockey Association (LHA) for 9 years. During that time, I have coached both boys’ and girls’ teams up through the Pee Wee and U10 Levels respectively. I have just finished the season as the South Pee Wee B1 head coach and an assistant on the U8 Beginner team. I currently have 2 children in LHA. Next year, my son Owen will be a second year Pee Wee and my daughter Murphy will be in her second year of U8 hockey. This would be my first board position.

Accomplishments:

As a coach in LHA, I have always prioritized presenting a positive environment, focused on the improvement of every player on my assigned teams. This is accomplished by working closely with the other coaches and parents on my team(s) and I believe is an important part of keeping as many kids as possible playing hockey. This concept is an essential part of organizational health. I am a strong collaborator, and ensure decisions are based on the input of the other coaches on the team and LHA board personnel. The teams I have coached have enjoyed success, while improving their level of play as a group.

Team Goals/Plans:

I would like to continue to build upon what the past South Head Coaches have developed regarding the recruitment and sustainment of quality coaching. My primary goal would be to continue to put the best coaches possible on the ice for the LHA teams in the South program. This includes assessing and revising the coaches’ selection process, working with existing South Coaches on shared best practices, and implementing a South Coaching Development Program to improve emerging coaching skills. In addition, I will continue the LHA Coach Code of Conduct to ensure that South coaches provide a positive influence to all players and that we are well regarded in District 8. Finally, I would like to work with the Hockey Development Committee (HDC) to continue improvements to the tryout process from a coach’s perspective, and advocate for coach input throughout the season.


Candidate Name: Tracy Kinsella DeWees

Desired Position: Registrar

Number of Children in LHA: 3

Background:

I have been a resident of Lakeville and involved in LHA since 2015. I have 3 boys playing hockey at the Peewee level and a 2 year old looking forward to skating in LHA like his big brothers!

Accomplishments:

I have managed two hockey seasons in LHA coordinating, communicating, and hosting numerous activities. In 2017 I organized a 3v3 Outdoor Backyard Jamboree with 60 skaters traveling to 6 backyard rinks in Lakeville for a day of Hockey Fun. In 2018 I planned the second annual hockey mom’s dinner. I am very passionate about bringing people together and creating a family with every season.

Team Goals/Plans:

 If elected to the Registrar role, I will ensure quality record keeping and organization of player registration, including USA Hockey registration for both skaters and coaches. I would work with the Association Treasurer to account for any payments accompanying registration. Additionally, I would process paperwork for transferring skaters and skaters born outside of the US. In learning this role I would consider process improvements and opportunities to document processes for my successors. As part of the LHA board I would ensure our association is focused developing individual and team skills, knowledge of the game, sportsmanship, and a positive youth sports culture which teaches life lessons.


Candidate Name: Jeff Sinkler

Desired Position: Girls U8/U10 Director

Number of Children in LHA: 2

Background:

 I have been involved with LHA for 3 seasons, my daughter Claire will be a first year U10 next season and my son Elijah will be a 3rd year Mite. During my time with LHA I have head coached 3 - U8 Teams and assistant coached 2 - Mite teams. I grew up playing hockey through the varsity level in High School. I have organized/coached 3 on 3 teams for both boys and girls and will be head coaching AAA U10 girls this summer.

Accomplishments:

Coaching all three levels in U8 has helped to understand the differences between player ability and parent understanding/involvement. The past two seasons I have helped during U8 and Mite Evals and also helped on ice for the inagural Little IceCats program.

Team Goals/Plans:

Continue to grow the great LHA girls program that has been established. I will work closely with the development coordinator to ensure the program continues to increase not only in player numbers but success of our players on and off the ice. We have a fantastic opportunity to get these young players hooked on hockey and become stellar athletes. Help develop strong coaching candidates and educate new coaches to the program. I believe that our girls program can be as succesful as both boys programs.
