About Board Elections

The election of officers for the Lakeville Hockey Association Board of Directors is held annually each spring.

This page will be updated to include a list of elected member positions that are open for each voting cycle.  This page will also include a form for interested candidates to submit their declaration of candidacy for these open positions.

2019 Open Board Positions

The following Board positions are open for candidacy for a two year period. Voting will be held during the March 2019 Board Meeting.

How to Apply or Declare Your Candidacy

If you are interested in applying (non-voting board member), or declaring your candidacy (voting board) for one of the open positions, just click the CONTINUE Button on the bottom of this page. Then, make sure that you then complete the full application including:

  • Board Position Options

By filling these out and selecting the appropriate type (voting or non-voting) position, you are applying to be a candidate for the LHA Board. The completed form you fill out will be submitted to LHA .

Deadline for Voting Positions

Voting positions require a public forum where members are elected to LHA. The information on the form you submit will be posted on the LHA Elections page and must be submitted by midnight, March 9, 2019.

  • Note: After March 9, any open positions are filled by appointment by the president and confirmed by the Board.

Note: Candidates will select the positions they are applying for from a drop down menu within the application process. It is possible to apply for multiple positions, but to do so, one must create an individual entry for each position.


Meet the 2019 Candidates

Candidate Name: Tammy Mahony

Desired Position: Secretary

Number of Children in LHA: 1

Background:

I have an education background within classroom teaching, elearning facilitation, mentoring and coaching. I have been the secretary for the past three years.

Accomplishments:

I have been the secretary for the past three years. I have obtained many accomplishments both personally and professionally.

Team Goals/Plans:

To continue to be on the board for two more years as the secretary and help make a difference within the youth hockey program at LHA.


Candidate Name: Shayne Ratcliff

Desired Position: Equipment Director

Number of Children in LHA: 2

Background:

I grew up playing hockey in Mankato, MN and went on to graduate with a degree in Recreation, Parks and Leisure Services from Minnesota State University, Mankato. I have worked as the Arenas Manager for Lakeville Arenas since 2007 and oversee all aspects of the Lakeville Ames and Lakeville Hasse Arenas. I have lived in Lakeville since 2011 with my wife Laura and two sons, Logan(6) and Blake(4).

Accomplishments:

I volunteered for the role of Equipment Director in May 2018 and worked to get up to speed quickly as the season was approaching. We had some setbacks due to new jersey orders but overall the first season went well. I was able to identify many areas that can be improved and adjusted to make the processes smoother for future years.

Team Goals/Plans:

My main goal initially is to improve the jersey ordering process for all LHA families. I have identified several areas that can be adjusted that I plan to implement if reelected to this position as outlined below: *Improved Communication *Earlier Ordering Window *Keeping Extra Inventory *Regular Tracking In addition to the improved jersey ordering process we will continue to help support the coaches and managers but providing the training aids needed to support our teams.


Candidate Name: Shane Trego

Desired Position: Squirt Director

Number of Children in LHA: 3

Background:

I grew up in Bismarck, ND and was lucky enough to play varsity hockey for 2 seasons. I received my undergraduate degree in Social Studies with a coaching concentration from Minnesota State University, Moorhead and later went on to earn my Master’s degree in Emotional/Behavioral Disorders from Minnesota State University, Mankato. I currently am a special education teacher in the Farmington school district. I have lived in Lakeville for 7 years with my wife, Shannon, and my 3 boys, Kieran (10), Easton (8), and Rylan (6).

Accomplishments:

 I began coaching youth hockey immediately after high school, and quickly developed a passion for coaching and teaching the game. Through the course of my coaching career I have coached at every level, from mite preps to varsity and junior gold. I was also the goalie instructor for the Fargo South Association for 5 years. I have coached in the Lakeville program for the past 6 years and, currently, am the head coach of a squirt team while also serving as an assistant coach for both of my kids in the mite program. Additionally, I presently serve as the Mite Director here in Lakeville.

Team Goals/Plans:

I am very proud of the program we have here in Lakeville and am committed to being part of the continual long-term development of the program. Some of the things that I hope to accomplish are:

-Working closely with the Player Development Coordinators to ensure that all squirt coaches receive any and all development information, to ensure that all squirt players are given equal access to it.

-To be an active member of the board and to provide timely communication and updates to the LHA community.

-To act as a resource for any squirt coach, and to continue to follow a high standard of administrative management, such as tournament selections, team registration obligations, and budget details. 


Candidate Name: Steve Nolander

Desired Position: IceCats Player Development Coordinator

Number of Children in LHA: 3

Background:

Graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a degree in Business. I currently work for CCM Finance, LLC as the Director of Commercial Lending. I've lived in Lakeville for 7 years with my wife Steph and kids Addison (11), Carson (9) and Elaina (6).  

Accomplishments:

I have coached within LHA for 7 years with both girls and boys teams. I've coached at the Mite Prep, Mite, U8 and U10 levels. I've been a board member of Minneapolis Hockey Officials Association (high school referees) for the past 10 years and currently hold the position of Chairman. I've reffed high school hockey for 20 years and counting, including 5 boys state tournaments. I also reffed Division III hockey for 15 years.   

Team Goals/Plans:

1. Work closely with LHA Level Directors on evaluation process, coach selections and team composition.

2. Communicate with high school head coaches, LHA Hockey Development Committee and other hockey resources to incorporate age appropriate skill development plans at all levels of LHA hockey.

3. Provide LHA coaches with resources to assist in the development of all players.


Candidate Name: Thomas Allard

Desired Position: North Association Head Coach

Number of Children in LHA: 1

Background:

18 years of head coaching at youth and high school level. Currently coach Junior Varsity at Lakeville North and Squirt C at Lakeville North. Assistant at Peewee AA at Lakeville North. 

Accomplishments:

18 years of successfully head coaching teams in 3 different associations. The past 8 years within the LHA program and high school program! 

Team Goals/Plans:

To implement a coaching philosophy within the entire lha program. Recruit, build and train coaches to be the best that they can be. Support and work together with all coaches within the LHA program to teach the game of hockey! Building a positive program that instills positive result within the youth program! 


Candidate Name: Justin Schultz

Desired Position: Equipment Director

Number of Children in LHA: 2

Background:

I have been a coach and manager in LHA for the last 7 years. 

Accomplishments:

I have helped manage and organize team budgets and activities for hockey and other activities. 

Team Goals/Plans:

To help the association evolve and be one of the best in Minnesota. 

Candidate Name: Andy Thompson

Desired Position: North Association Head Coach

Number of Children in LHA: 2

Background:

I grew up playing hockey in Burnsville, Minnesota and graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison with a degree in Chemical Engineering. I also received an MBA from the University of Minnesota, Carlson School of Management. I currently work for M Health as a process improvement consultant. I’ve lived in Lakeville for eleven years with my wife Anna and kids Molly (14), Drew (11) & Max (8).

Accomplishments:

I have coached within LHA for 8 years (girls & boys teams). I have coached at the Mite, Squirt and Bantam levels. In addition, I helped develop a summer hockey program focused on developing kids’ hockey and life skills and fostering Lakeville North & South kids playing together. Lakeville has a unique opportunity for North & South kids to play together in the Summer and be rivals during the hockey season. I believe this unique opportunity provides community strength for these players and families on and off the ice. I was previously the LHA Mite Director and I am currently on the board as the North Association Head Coach. I also hold a level 4 USA Hockey coaching certification.

Team Goals/Plans:

1. Build consistency among the coaches through communication and efforts to bring the coaches together.

2. Continually improve the coach selection process and the actual coaching with feedback from parents and coaches.

3. Selecting coaches with both hockey acumen and the communication skills to work with many different types of personalities. We want to develop the kids' hockey skills, help build their character on/off the ice and enhance their passion for hockey.


Candidate Name: Brett Gjovik

Desired Position: South Player Development Coordinator

Number of Children in LHA: 3

Background:

Graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a degree in Business. I currently work for CMC in Albert Lea, MN as a Commodity Trader. I've lived in Lakeville for 13 years with my wife Kirsten and kids Max (8), Ella (7) and Weston (5).

Accomplishments:

I've coached and held a board position within LHA for the last 6 years. Currently I'm the South Player Development Coordinator. I've developed, coached and managed a summer AAA hockey team. 

Team Goals/Plans:

Work with the high school head coach to structure a long term player development model. Provide LHA coaches with resources to aid in the successful development of all players. 


Candidate Name: Alison Fogarty

Desired Position: Registrar

Number of Children in LHA: 2

Background:

I graduated from the University of Nevada with a degree in Biology and finished my education at the University of St. Thomas, earning a MBA in 2005. I am the Vice President of Marketing at Mystic Lake Casino Hotel. I am a life long hockey fan, but I was a figure skater growing up. My husband Joe and I moved to Lakeville four years ago with our four kids: Brittany (21), Riley (12), Joey (11), and Mathilda (8). Both Joey and Mathilda play hockey in Lakeville. 

Accomplishments:

I have been the Communications Director for the LHA for the past 18 months. I most recently worked with four other LHA Board members to plan and execute our First Annual Hockey Day Lakeville event.

Team Goals/Plans:

As Registrar for the LHA Board, I would like to continually look for ways to improve the registration process for both our Board as well as for the families of LHA. Being a part of this Association for the past 3 years and a Board member for the past 1 1/2 has opened my eyes to the amount of work that it takes to make this organization successful. I would like to do my part in remaining an active Board member and working towards always finding new ways to make the experience a positive one for our kids and their families.

Desired Position: Mite Director

Background:

While attending college I had the opportunity to coach at the youth and HS level for several years and since having kids I began coaching in LHA the past two seasons at both the Mite Prep and Mite Levels. I have also served as the Equipment Director for this past season.

Team Goals/Plans:

I want to continue the great Mite program that is all ready in place. I want to work with the coaches at all three Mite levels to ensure they have the tools they need to best support our developing players. Providing supplemental information from USA Hockey to help keep drills and practices fun and challenging will be a main goal for the upcoming season. 


Candidate Name: Seth Baker

Desired Position: North Player Development Coordinator

Number of Children in LHA: 3

Background:

I grew up playing hockey in Chaska, MN and graduated from Lake Forest College in Illinois with degrees in Business and Communications. I currently work for Legrand as Director of Channel Sales, based in Eden Prairie. I have lived in Lakeville for 2 years with my wife Holly and kids Brody (11), Dylan (8), Kenley (5). My family has been involved with Lakeville hockey for 8 years.

Accomplishments:

I have volunteered to coach each year my kids have played hockey. I have also volunteered on the board for the past 4 years. This past season I was involved with helping expand our goalie training at Xhockey and bringing Fortis Academy to work with all Lakeville kids. I also helped drive more open hockey options for kids at Lakeville Arenas.

Team Goals/Plans:

My passion is coaching and working with kids. I coached at the Pee Wee, Mite 3 and Mite Prep level this year. As North Development Coordinator, I plan to work closely with the HS Coach to develop a more consistent plan for in-season and off-season training. My ultimate goal is to help every child reach their potential and grow their love of the game.
